Prime Video released the full trailer for Blade Runner 2099 at New York Comic Con on Saturday, October 10, and confirmed that the series will premiere on November 25. The eight-episode limited series was created by Silka Luisa and produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Alcon Television Group.
The story is set 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. Deadline's description says Los Angeles has been reborn, but not by humanity. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a fugitive who takes on one last identity as a Blade Runner. She is forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant days from dying, played by Michelle Yeoh, and the two hunt a runaway who is hiding a truth that could collapse a fragile city. Dimitri Abold also stars, and Jonathan van Tulleken directed.
At the panel, Luisa explained the premise by saying the replicant uprising hinted at in the films has taken place and the humans have lost, so the creations have surpassed their creators, according to Gizmodo. She said 2049 brought Rick Deckard's story to a close, so it is time for new characters.
The series first showed a teaser at San Diego Comic-Con in July. It is based on the world of the Philip K. Dick novel that inspired the 1982 film.
