Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is streaming on Netflix. All 10 episodes arrived on Tuesday, October 20 at 12:00 a.m. PT, according to Primetimer and GamesRadar.
The series is a standalone story set in 2078, after the first season ended with David's death. It follows Weak, a former edgerunner legend living without chrome, and D, a netrunner seeking revenge who uncovers corporate secrets, per Primetimer. CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michal Nowakowski has said it is not a direct sequel.
Clancy Brown voices Weak in English, with Nazeeh Tarsha as D, Kimoy Lee as Talia and Valeria Rodriguez as Roman Carax. Hideo Kojima cameos as Hideyoshi Oshima. Studio TRIGGER produces with CD Projekt Red, and Kai Ikarashi directs. The Cure performs the opening theme.
GamesRadar says early reactions from the premiere screening were very positive.
In the game, Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 arrives October 22 with Edgerunners 2 content, a new dual-wielding playstyle and cyberware customization, according to GamesRadar. A REDstreams episode on October 21 at 11 a.m. ET will share more details.
How the Sequel Was Announced
Netflix first announced the project in July 2025 as a standalone sequel set in the same universe as the original series and the game, according to Hypebeast. Netflix and CD Projekt Red later revealed the new crew over several days, with the characters Weak Kingsley, D, Roman Carax and Talia Yang introduced one at a time, per Anitrendz and Video Games Chronicle. Video Games Chronicle reports that Netflix confirmed the fall 2026 window with those character reveals, and ComicBook.com says a final trailer and poster arrived a few days before the October 20 launch.
The Voice Cast in Japanese and English
The Japanese cast includes Kentaro Tone as Weak Kingsley, Koki Uchiyama as D, Momoka Terasawa as Roman Carax and Akari Kito as Talia Yang, according to Fandom Post and ComicBook.com. The English dub, which was available at launch, stars Brown, Tarsha, Lee and Rodriguez in the matching roles. Netflix released both language versions together, so viewers can choose either on the day of release.
The Team Behind the Series
Ikarashi takes over directing duties from Hiroyuki Imaishi, who led the original series, according to What’s on Netflix. He previously worked on the first season’s sixth episode, “Girl on Fire,” as an episode director, storyboard artist and animation lead, a role that has been described as a standout of the original run. Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer and producer, with Masahiko Otsuka also credited on the story, and Ichigo Kanno returns as lead character designer, per Game Informer and Fandom Post.
The season has 10 episodes, all released on the same day, and is animated by Studio TRIGGER, the same studio behind the first series, according to Culturageek and Game Informer. T-Break notes that Netflix originals arrive at midnight Pacific time, which meant an 11 a.m. start in the UAE and different local times around the world.
A Standalone Story
Netflix presents the series as independent, and outlets such as T-Break have stressed that it is not a continuation of the first season. It centers on a new crew in Night City rather than David and Lucy, as Multiplayer.it puts it in its review. Hypebeast notes that the announcement of the sequel paired the new story with a darker tone, and its coverage of the reveal quoted the line that David is dead but Night City lives on.
Game Informer describes the series as a brand-new cast and story that remains set in Night City. Complex reported before launch that an additional, yet-to-be-revealed character was also teased on the official Cyberpunk website, which suggested the crew would grow beyond the four announced leads.
Early Reviews
Critical reaction has been mostly positive. Kambole Campbell of What’s on Netflix gave the season a perfect 5 out of 5, and GamesRadar praised the animation, the voice cast and the ambition of its interwoven stories, according to a roundup on Hoshika. The same roundup says Jonathon Wilson’s review at Ready Steady Cut was considerably harsher, so critics are not unanimous.
The Free Game Update
CD Projekt Red announced the free Edgerunners 2 Update, version 2.5, for Cyberpunk 2077 alongside the premiere, according to the studio’s release statement as relayed by Hoshika. GamesRadar reports that the update adds content tied to the series, a dual-wielding playstyle and cyberware customization. Players who want details beyond the premiere can follow the studio’s REDstreams broadcasts and its official channels.
