Digger Opens With $8 Million in Fifth Place

Alejandro G. Iñárritu's original satire finished fifth in 3,321 theaters.

Digger, the Alejandro G. Iñárritu film starring Tom Cruise, earned about $8 million in its opening weekend, finishing fifth at the domestic box office. It played in 3,321 theaters, an average of roughly $2,409 per location.

Daily grosses declined across the weekend: about $3.4 million on Friday (including Thursday previews), $2.6 million on Saturday and $2.0 million on Sunday. On Tuesday, October 6, the film took in about $1.1 million, bringing its five-day total to roughly $9.9 million.

Cruise had been promoting the film on an international press tour. He appeared at a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, on October 1, the day before the film opened in the US.
