Rockstar says Grand Theft Auto VI will arrive on schedule. Studio head Rob Nelson told Japanese magazine Famitsu that fans can be confident in the game's quality and that it will release on time, according to iXBT.games, which credits GameRant. The game is due on November 19, 2026.
What Rockstar Is Promising
Nelson’s remarks to Famitsu are aimed at two things at once: the quality of the finished game and the date on which it will reach players. After two postponements, a public commitment to the schedule carries more weight than it would for a typical release, because audiences have had to adjust their expectations more than once. Rockstar is also speaking to a Japanese audience here, which shows how widely the game is being followed beyond English-speaking markets.
The Bloomberg Feature and the Two Delays
The comments come as a lengthy Bloomberg feature on the making of the game circulates. Kotaku reports that the feature details how Rockstar delayed the game twice, first to May 2026 and then to November 2026. Rockstar's head of publishing, Jennifer Kolbe, asked Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick for both extensions. She recalled that his first reaction to the second request was “please tell me you're kidding.” Zelnick agreed once the reasons were explained, and described giving the developers more time as a wise investment.
The account gives an unusual look at how a decision of this size is made inside a large publisher. Rockstar is owned by Take-Two Interactive, so a delay is not only a creative choice but also a business one, with consequences for the publisher’s schedule and its expectations for the year. The fact that Zelnick reacted with surprise but then approved the change after hearing the explanation suggests that the developers’ reasons were given serious consideration before the new date was set.
Why Expectations Are So High
Grand Theft Auto V arrived in 2013 and has remained one of the most widely played games of its generation, which means the next numbered entry has had more than a decade of anticipation behind it. Rockstar’s most recent major release before this one, Red Dead Redemption 2, came out in 2018. Together, those long gaps between major releases explain why every new piece of information about Grand Theft Auto VI, from trailers to development reports, attracts so much attention.
Rockstar’s first trailer for the game, released in December 2023, drew a very large audience within a short period and set the tone for the years of discussion that followed. Since then, the studio has released material in measured amounts, which has kept the focus on each announcement and made features like the Bloomberg report an important source of background for fans.
Platforms, Pricing and Pre-Orders
GamesRadar lists the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only at launch, with no PC version confirmed. Pre-orders opened on June 25, with the Standard Edition priced at $80 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. An extended gameplay look of about 20 minutes was released on August 27.
An $80 price for the Standard Edition places the game at the upper end of current pricing for major console releases, and the $99.99 Ultimate Edition gives buyers a higher-priced option. The absence of a confirmed PC version at launch means the first wave of players will be on console, and Rockstar has not yet said when or whether other platforms will follow. The 20-minute gameplay presentation released on August 27 gave players their longest look so far at how the game plays, and it came well ahead of the launch date, which allowed pre-order customers time to judge the footage before release.
What to Watch Before Launch
With the November 19 date confirmed once more by Nelson, the remaining weeks before release will be closely watched for any final announcements, including details about launch-day updates and further previews of the game. Rockstar has now stated publicly, in an interview and through reporting on its internal discussions, that the date is firm. Players waiting on the release will find out whether that commitment holds when November 19 arrives.
