Jeremy Renner says he is not in Avengers: Doomsday. According to GamesRadar, Renner was asked at a recent Q&A whether he is returning as Hawkeye and answered, “No, no, no, no. Not in that one.” Variety's headline quotes him saying Marvel did not call him, so it is “their fault.”
Renner joked that the Avengers “will probably lose” without Hawkeye. GamesRadar says the line refers to Avengers: Infinity War, which Hawkeye missed, and notes that the character played a major role in Avengers: Endgame. Renner also appeared to rule out a return in Avengers: Secret Wars, a comeback that has been widely rumored.
Fans are not convinced. GamesRadar reports that many expect Hawkeye to appear regardless, and Marvel has kept parts of the cast secret. Co-director Anthony Russo said at an Endgame Encore Q&A that some cast members have not been announced, while Paul Bettany said he would “get fired” if he confirmed casting details.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in cinemas on December 18, and on December 16 in the UK. The confirmed cast includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, the new Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, the Wakandans and most of the original Fox-era X-Men.
