Secret Cinema and TodayTix have announced the lead cast for Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure in London. Olivier Award winner George Maguire will play Captain Jack Sparrow, according to Theatre Weekly. The production has also been extended by six weeks because of demand.
The Lead Cast
Phil Daniels plays Captain Barbossa, Lily Blunsom plays Elizabeth Swann, Harrison Wilde plays Will Turner and Gleanne Purcell-Brown plays Anamaria. Further casting is still to come.
These are the central roles from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the 2003 film that launched the franchise. On screen, Jack Sparrow, Barbossa, Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner formed the heart of the story, and Anamaria was one of the crew members Jack encountered along the way. Casting stage performers in these parts means the live production will rely on theater actors to carry characters that audiences already know from the film, with Maguire’s Olivier Award giving the lead role an experienced stage performer.
Dates and Venue
Previews begin February 16, 2027, and the show officially opens March 10 at Secret Cinema’s new venue on Greenwich Peninsula, near The O2. Olivier Award winner Matt Costain directs. Rather than screening a full film, the production mixes live theater with selected moments from The Curse of the Black Pearl. WhatsOnStage says it is the first time the franchise has been adapted into a fully immersive theatrical experience.
The six-week extension, announced because of demand, gives audiences a longer window in which to book. A production that opens in March after a period of previews in February will now stay open for longer than first planned, which is a common sign that ticket sales have been strong in the weeks after tickets went on sale.
What Immersive Theatre Means Here
Secret Cinema is best known for staging events in which audiences step into the world of a film rather than watching it from a seat. Guests typically arrive in costume or in character, move through built environments and watch scenes unfold around them. This production follows that approach but changes the balance: it is not a screening with live elements added, but a theatrical experience that uses selected moments from the film as part of the show.
That distinction matters for a story set largely at sea. The 2003 film moves between Port Royal, island hideaways and the decks of rival ships, and an immersive production can translate those locations into spaces that audiences walk through. The involvement of a production designer on the creative team points to the importance of the physical world in this kind of event.
The Creative Team
The creative team includes Jason Sherwood as production designer, Kait Kerrigan as theatrical adaptor and Alan Williams on music. Disney Theatrical Group licensed the production. It is a stage experience, not a new film, and the franchise’s film future is unconfirmed.
Disney Theatrical Group is the division of the company that oversees stage adaptations of Disney properties, so its licensing role shows that the production has the studio’s official backing. The franchise itself originated in a Disney theme park attraction, which makes a physical, walk-through experience a fitting format for the story. That history gives the project a link between the original ride, the films and now a live production designed around the audience’s movement.
What Audiences Can Expect
With the lead cast announced, the production now has its main pirates, a director, a design team and a venue. Additional cast members are still to be named, and further details about the staging have not been announced. Because the show is a theatrical experience rather than a new film, it should be seen as a separate way of visiting the world of Pirates of the Caribbean, not as a sign of any new screen project. Tickets are sold through the production’s official channels, and the extended run gives fans in London more time to arrange a visit once the show opens next spring.
