Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin Return for Sicario 3

Padraic McKinley directs from a script by Steven Knight, with filming expected to start in 2027.

Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin are returning for Sicario 3, according to Deadline's report on October 5. Black Label Media and Thunder Road are behind the film, with Padraic McKinley, the director of this year's The Weight, set to direct from a script by Oscar nominee Steven Knight. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Blunt will play FBI agent Kate Macer for the first time since the original 2015 film. She did not appear in the 2018 sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado. Del Toro returns as Alejandro Gillick and Brolin as Matt Graver, both of whom appeared in the first two films. Empire describes the project as a trilogy capper.

Taylor Sheridan, who wrote the first two films, has an unclear role. Variety previously reported that he had written a script for the third film, but the Deadline report credits Knight, and World of Reel says that suggests Sheridan's draft was set aside. Fox News notes that the competing reports leave his involvement uncertain.

The first film was directed by Denis Villeneuve and Soldado by Stefano Sollima. Both were released by Lionsgate, but the third film does not yet have a distributor, according to Just Jared. Filming is expected to begin in 2027.

Blunt was most recently seen in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and has wrapped production on A Quiet Place Part 3.
