The Last of Us season 3 will arrive in 2027, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys told Deadline. “It’ll be happening in ’27. I don’t have a date,” Bloys said, adding, “I think Craig [Mazin] has planned it as the final season.”
Bloys stopped short of an official announcement that season 3 is the last, per Geektown. The season is expected to focus on Abby and cover the rest of The Last of Us Part II, which would bring the show level with the games.
Principal photography began in British Columbia on March 2 under the working title Calm Current and was scheduled to end November 27, according to Wikipedia. Production paused in June and resumed in late July. Craig Mazin is the sole showrunner and has directed episodes, per the same source.
Kaitlyn Dever returns as Abby, Bella Ramsey returns as Ellie in a smaller role, and Jeffrey Wright returns as Isaac, per Wikipedia. Newcomers include Patrick Wilson as Jerry, Jason Ritter as Hanley, Peter Sarsgaard as Amon, Clea DuVall as a Seraphite and Li Jun Li as Miriam. Jorge Lendeborg Jr. replaced Danny Ramirez as Manny in February. Gustavo Santaolalla is set to return to compose the score.
HBO has not announced a premiere date or episode count.
