Universal has confirmed that Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey arrives on digital and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on November 17, 2026, according to JoBlo. The date had been rumored for months.
Every Format, One Day
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release the film on digital platforms, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on the same date, according to Variety as cited by several outlets. Nerdist notes that this is an unusual arrangement, since digital releases often arrive a full month before discs. JoBlo says the digital version will be available to rent or buy.
The 4K Ultra HD disc will be presented in HDR with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound, according to Geek Vibes Nation, and the film’s running time is listed at 2 hours and 53 minutes on the Blu-ray details published by BroadwayWorld. British retailer coverage from Film Stories adds that a pair of 4K steelbook editions will be offered alongside the standard discs in the United Kingdom.
Release dates vary slightly by territory. Australian outlet The AU Review lists November 18 for local audiences, which it describes as months before subscription streaming services. Cosmic Book News makes the same point about the U.S. release, noting that a streaming debut remains months away.
Film Stories reports that the film was always going to face a long wait before reaching home formats, because of Nolan’s insistence on a lengthy theatrical run and the box office returns that continued to arrive. The Hollywood News gives a separate November 18 date for its own market, so readers outside the United States should check the date listed by their local retailer.
The Special Features, Piece by Piece
The release includes a package of bonus material. Twelve behind-the-scenes featurettes, overseen by Nolan, cover the adaptation of the classic poem, the casting and costumes, filming in extreme conditions, the redesigned Trojan Horse, the Moroccan set built for the fall of Troy, and the 15th-century castle on Favignana used for Ithaca. Others look at the action work with Matt Damon and Tom Holland, the visual effects, the Viking ships and storm sequences, and Ludwig Göransson's score, which uses ancient instruments and vocals.
The discs also carry The Journey of Film on The Odyssey, in which creator Reece Feldman asks Nolan what happens to a movie after it leaves the set, plus an IMAX exclusive prologue, the music video for “When I'm Home” by James Blake, Travis Scott and Göransson, and trailers. The AU Review says the bonus content adds up to more than 90 minutes.
A Box Office Run That Set the Terms
The release follows a theatrical run that began on July 17, according to Analytics Insight, which puts the home release exactly four months later. Universal’s own announcement, as published by BroadwayWorld, says the film has earned more than $1.7 billion worldwide and is the highest-grossing film in both Nolan’s career and Universal’s 114-year history. Earlier reports used lower figures as the total grew. Collider put the run at $1.5 billion when the date was first announced in August, and Outlook India and Comicbookmovie cited $1.35 billion.
Cosmic Book News reports that the film also passed The Dark Knight as Nolan’s biggest domestic release. Outlook India says the schedule mirrors the 123-day theatrical window used for Oppenheimer, and describes the approach as one that gives the film a longer stay in theaters than many major releases, helped by premium formats such as IMAX.
One More Chance on the Biggest Screens
The home release follows a return to the big screen. The film went back to select IMAX and IMAX 70mm theaters on October 9, according to Bleeding Cool, giving fans another chance to see it in the largest formats before the home release.
Awards Season Context
Universal’s announcement reminds readers that Nolan’s previous film, Oppenheimer, won the Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director. Analytics Insight reports that industry voices expect strong awards attention for The Odyssey as well, especially in technical categories, and the same outlet describes the film as the highest-grossing R-rated release ever.
Big Screen First, Home Second
Nerdist’s coverage takes the view that no home theater experience can truly match the big screen, but that fans will still want Nolan’s version of Homer’s epic in their own collections. JoBlo points out that buyers who prefer a physical copy can purchase the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on the same day the digital version goes on sale.
The People Behind the Film
The disc listing credits Hoyte van Hoytema as director of photography and Emma Thomas and Nolan as producers, with Thomas Hayslip as an executive producer, according to BroadwayWorld. The film is based on Homer’s Odyssey, and its cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, per Universal’s announcement. The Hollywood News lists Samantha Morton, Will Yun Lee, James Remar, Logan Marshall-Green, Mia Goth and Corey Hawkins among the other cast members.
Universal frames the home release as the film’s journey home, and the company’s social media post for the date said viewers could watch the film at home on November 17 with exclusive special features, according to Dark Horizons. Mediaweek reports that the features are described as an essential collection personally overseen by Nolan.
